Following 30 days of rejects, Yahoo unveiled their new logo at midnight last night (as seen above). Reaction from the tech press has been mostly negative, with common complaints including the use of bevelling on the letters (a dated design technique), and the animation of the exclamation point on Yahoo’s homepage. Interestingly, another prominent web company – the one from whence Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer came – still uses beveled letters in their logo as well. Despite the complaints, Yahoo’s new logo is much cleaner, sleeker, and modern than its predecessor, and having had time to digest the new design, I quite like it.
Mayer also posted about the new logo on her personal Tumblr blog, explaining the weekend-long design project and thought process.
