Brewster Release Major Update, Gains Position as Must-Have App

These days, there are only a few ‘must-have’ apps for your iPhone. You have your requisite social network apps, Google Maps,  a choice between Temple Run and Angry Birds, and CNN for breaking news alerts. Today we have a new entry to the list.

Brewster, the contact management app that brings info from all your social networks and gmail accounts into one convenient place, has existed for a while, but today’s update has pushed the app into must-have status. Launched in 2012, Brewster was touted upon its release as a viable replacement for the native Contacts app on the iPhone, but after complaints about gmail contact syncing and contact duplication, that belief was quickly subdued.

With its latest update, Brewster is attempting to remedy the issues, while making a dramatic shift. Brewster now syncs with the native Contacts app allowing you to view your Brewster-created contact cards in the native Mail, Messages, Phone, and any other app that pulls from your contact list. Another big improvement has been made to improve Brewster contacts in  autocomplete fields, which used to be a mess, with missing emails and phone numbers, all but nullifying a major portion of the user experience.

It seems that the team Brewster has realized that nothing will truly replace the native contact app on the iPhone (at least not yet). Instead, as Brewster founder Steve Greenwood told TechCrunch, “We are now fixing your iPhone contacts.”

It appears they have succeeded.
