An iMore article published today claims to shed new light on the availability of Apple’s next iPhone. According to the report, preorders for the new iPhone will begin, in the United States at least, on September 12th. For those of you playing the home game, that is the same day that Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone, information first reported by iMore and later corroborated by a number of trustworthy publications. Starting preorders for the new device on the same day as its announcement is an aggressive move on Apple’s part; preorders for the iPhone 4S began on October 7th last year, three days after its unveiling on October 4th. Let us hope the Apple Store servers can handle the guaranteed influx of traffic.
iMore also states that the new iPhone is still scheduled for a September 21st launch, which, in addition to the U.S., will likely include other major countries like Canada and the U.K. The “second wave” of launches, the initial international rollout, will take place during the first week of October, likely October 5th, according to iMore’s sources.
We’ll bring you the official word from Apple on September 12th, when all of these rumors and speculation can finally be put to rest. Until next year, that is.
